Feeling disconnected from yourself?🙄
Often there’s stuff under the surface that we’re afraid to look at. It feels overwhelming, like a monster in deep, dark water which threatens to drag us down & doom us to drowning.
Welcome to shadow work, my friends.
What happens if we just keep pretending everything’s ‘fine’? Focus on making it through the day & do whatever it takes to numb the sadness & fear lurking beneath the surface?
What’s your numbing agent – Alcohol? Social media? Keeping busy and not spending a moment alone with your thoughts?
If we continue to ignore what’s struggling in our subconscious, we end up feeling disconnected from ourself. There’s a sense of ‘I don’t know who I am’. This leads to a sense of feeling lost, depressed and hopeless about life.
And just before I get into solutions, it’s worth noting the whole Armageddon-esq thing playing out in the world. There’s more fear in the collective than has been experienced since world war two (IMHO). Irregardless of what you personally believe, the pandemic is undeniably affecting each of our lives: physically, mentally, emotionally & spiritually.
Solutions! What to do to reconnect to yourself?
You basically want to create a space where you’re able to listen to what’s under the surface of your daily life. If scary thoughts come up, respond to them the way you would if a friend was telling you the same thing – with love, patience and kindness.
Here’s 3 practical suggestions of how to connect to yourself:
1. Meditate🧘♀️Newbie? Apps like Headspace & Insight Timer are da 💣
2. Journal 📜Write about your fears, challenges, dreams. Express yourself openly & honestly.
3. Go for a walk 🚶♂️without music or podcasts. Actively listen to your own mind.
Bonus: get a book which supports this connection – The Untethered Soul by Michael Singer & The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle are 2 of my favourites.
Also, the good news is that it’s always possible to form a relationship with yourself. Learning how to be your best friend is one of the most powerful things possible.
Drop a ❤️ in the comments if you think it’s important to connect with yourself. I’d love questions too! 🤔
